Forbidden City, UNESCO, Qing and Ming Dynasties, Beijing, China
I am absolutely fascinated by The Forbidden City! It is in the top 5 places in the world I'd like to visit one day. In the meantime I have to be satisfied with seeing it on postcards. I never tire of receiving the postcard version though as there are so many different areas and views from the site. This is a UNESCO site of 'Imperial Palaces of Qing and Ming Dynasties in Beijing and Shenyang. Rila took this photo herself and made it into a postcard.

Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
This beautiful Eiffel Tower postcard in a Lomo/Cross Processed style and complete with bokeh effect actually arrived from China. It was sent by Christy as she really liked the card. I like it too. Although it is actually a UNESCO site I'm not counting it as part of my collection as it hasn't been sent from the site country.

Totoro
I love Hayao Miyazaki films and Spirited Away is my favourite but My Neighbour Totoro is a close second. This great card was sent from Yinanliu in China after she saw it on my Postcrossing favourites wall.

Chinese text - Ignorance is Bliss
Terrible scan of a great card. The writing is actually in gold, which doesn't show up here, sadly. I'm not entirely sure I've got it the right way up but the translation is, 'Ignorance is bliss' so maybe it's better that I don't know...

Soviet card, China
I love Soviet cards, whether they be vintage or reproduction and this one is a great addition to my collection. It arrived from China though as shown on the stamps.
Vintage Chinese Peep Show
A great vintage card of a Chinese Peep Show. The publishers description says that peep shows were very popular before modern film. The viewer watched static pictures through a magnifying hole and the vendor pulled a rope to change the pictures regularly and described what was going on by singing. How lovely. I wonder what they're watching.
UNESCO - Marble Boat, Summer Palace, Forbidden City, China
Had to do a bit of detective work to know what this one was as there is nothing on the back but I'm thrilled with it because, 1) I'm totally fascinated by The Forbidden City, and 2) this is 'The Marble Boat' which is situated in the Summer Palace and counts as a UNESCO card for my collection "Summer Palace an Imperial Garden in Beijing". I already have this site ticked off but I'm happy with all the Forbidden City cards so the more the merrier.
Wiki says - "The Marble Boat, also known as the Boat of Purity and Ease, is a lakeside pavilion on the grounds of the Summer Palace in Beijing, China.
It was first erected in 1755 during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor. The original pavilion was made from a base of large stone blocks which supported a wooden superstructure done in a traditional Chinese design.
In 1860, during the Second Opium War, the pavilion was destroyed by Anglo-French forces. It was restored in 1893 on order of Empress Dowager Cixi. In this restoration, a new two-story superstructure was designed which incorporated elements of European architecture. Like its predecessor, the new superstructure is made out of wood but it was painted to imitate marble. On each "deck", there is a large mirror to reflect the waters of the lake and give an impression of total immersion in the aquatic environment. Imitation paddlewheels on each side of the pavilion makes it look like a paddle steamer. The pavilion has a sophisticated drainage system which channels rain water through four hollow pillars. The water is finally released into the lake through the mouths of four dragonheads."

Jetoy
These Jetoy cards are so cute! I might have to start a collection as I know there are a lot them in the series.
This one comes from Before Summer in a swap on the Postcrossing forums.

Yuanyang Terraced Fields, UNESCO
Fantastic addition to my UNESCO collection. The Terraced Fields in Yuanyang. "Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terrace"
"The Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, China covers 16,603-hectares in Southern Yunnan. It is marked by spectacular terraces that cascade down the slopes of the towering Ailao Mountains to the banks of the Hong River. Over the past 1,300 years, the Hani people have developed a complex system of channels to bring water from the forested mountaintops to the terraces. They have also created an integrated farming system that involves buffalos, cattle, ducks, fish and eel and supports the production of red rice, the area’s primary crop. The inhabitants worship the sun, moon, mountains, rivers, forests and other natural phenomena including fire. They live in 82 villages situated between the mountaintop forests and the terraces. The villages feature traditional thatched “mushroom” houses. The resilient land management system of the rice terraces demonstrates extraordinary harmony between people and their environment, both visually and ecologically, based on exceptional and long-standing social and religious structures."
