UNESCO, Naarden, The Netherlands

This marvelous fortified town is Naarden in The Netherlands.  It has been included in the UNESCO site 'Dutch Water Defence Lines' since 2021.  I received this before that time and just thought it was a cool card.  Now, I think it's a cool UNESCO card!  Thank you Mildred who lives in Naarden.

Sunday

Tongariro National Park, New Zealand. Unesco

A very nice New Zealand UNESCO card of the site 'Tongariro National Park'.  I won't cound it towards my missing sites as it is not from country of origin but I'm still glad to have it. Thank you Marcella in Switzerland.

UNESCO Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. USA

A wonderful card for the New Mexico UNESCO site 'Taos Pueblo'. I'm so sad that it not only has suffered terrible treatment in the form of 'The Fold' from the 'Horrible Ex-Postman' but it has also been afflicted in several place by the White Scuff of Doom that the postal machines dish out.  Why is it always the special cards that fare the worst.  I'm still happy to have this card though and it has a place in my collection.   Thank you Carol in the USA.

UNESCO - Multiview of Alberobello Citta, Italy

This UNESCO Multiview shows the site 'The Trulli of Alberobello' in Italy.  I won't mark it off of my wishlist as it comes from Finland instead of Italy but it's still a nice card to have.   Thank you Paivi.

UNESCO - Camino de Santiago, Spain

A very nice map card showing the route of the Camino de Santiago.  A great addition to my UNESCO collection and I can now mark off 'Routes of Santiago de Compostela'.  Thank you Anastasia.

Tiahunaco, Bolivia, Unesco

An amazing UNESCO card of the Bolivian site 'Tiwanaku: Spiritual and Political Centre of the Tiwanaku Culture'.  I won't be able to mark off that site on my list yet as I only count sites that are sent from country of origin and this one was sent from Germany, but it's still a great card to have.  Thank you Weiss.

UNESCO - The Yaroslav's Court, Russia

A lovely card from Liza showing The Yaroslav's Court.  What great timing to get the photograph at exactly the right angle to look like the Rainbow had landed directly on the building.  This card will allow me to mark off my Russia UNESCO site 'Historical Centre of the City of Yaroslavl'.

A little bit of a mystery with this one too though.  There was a little paper ticket attached to the back of the postcard with a paperclip.  I don't know what it says or means and I don't know if it was the sender or the mail service that added it but it's interesting either way.  If you know what it says, please let me know.  I can't believe it made it all the way from Russia to Scotland with the paperclip and bit of paper still attached but I'm glad it did!

Monastic Island of Reichenau, Germany - UNESCO Multiview

When this card arrived I was looking forward to marking another site off of my UNESCO list.  It is a WHC site and it is one I don't already have, but unfortuately my own self imposed rules mean that my UNESCO cards only count if they're from the country of origin.  Sadly, this German site comes from a Swiss postcrosser but it is a wonderful multiview and I'm delighted to have it, I just can mark off that site.  Thank you for a marvelous card Simone.

Saturday

UNESCO - St Sohphia's Cathedral, Kiev, Ukraine

I stopped Postcrossing for a couple of years and so stopped blogging too because no postcards were coming in.  But now I'm back doing both and very happy about it. I stopped postcrossing because of my horrible postman.  My letterbox is big enough to put most mail through, even pretty thick packets, but the postman insisted on folding everything and then putting it in the letterbox.

VERY upsetting to see my postcards folded in half with big creases.  I of course asked him to stop and explained how upsetting it was and he said it was no problem and he's stop doing it.  But, did he stop?  NO!!  I couldn't bear it so had to give up postcrossing and hoped he'd move on to another area.  It took almost 2 years but then a new postman turned up one day and my mail was unfolded so I tentatively started to postcross again. All was well for a while but I saw my old mailman delivering in the area yesterday and I have all my fingers crossed that he wasn't just absent temporarily.  I don't want him back!! *Cries*.   Please, CROSS YOU FINGERS FOR ME!

For now though, I have plenty of older (and some recent) cards to work through so here we go....

------------------------------

I thought I'd start with this one since it's a country that is on my mind a lot lately.  My heart and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine and hope their suffering will end soon.

Olga sent me this UNESCO card some time ago and it shows Views of St. Sophia Cathedral built in the 11th Century so they're over 1000 years old!.  Kyiv is known as the 'City of Golden Domes' and I hope that these domes will last another 1000 years.   Thank you Olga, I hope you're safe <3

Friday

UNESCO - Komodo National Park, Indonesia

Unesco for an Indonesian site - The Komodo National Park was sent by Mari as part of a priate forum swap.  Pity the white scuff of doom ruins the picture.

UNESCO - Sintra, Portugal

UNESCO site 'Cultural Landscape of Sintra', showing the Pena Palace which dates back to 1839.  The palace is one of the Portuguese wonders.

UNESCO - Kilawea Volcano, Hawaii. USA

UNESCO site Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, sent by Julia in Hawaii. Kilauea is one of the world's most active volcanoes.

UNESCO - St Michaels Church, Hildesheim, Germany

My UNESCO collection is getting bigger with the addition of this St Mary's Cathedral and St Michael's Church at Hildesheim card.  Sent by Katharina in Germany who tells me that it is almost 1000 years old and during the celebrations for it they put up scaffolding all around it, sadly.

UNESCO Kinderdijk Windmills, The Netherlands

Sabine from the Netherlands sent me this card of the famous windmills of the Kinderdijk.  I have belatedly realised that this is a UNESCO site so another one is marked off!

UNESCO - Tallinn Old Town, Estonia, Nightiew

A great UNESCO card from Anna in Estonia.  The info on the back just says Tallinn, Estonia but Anna confirms that it's an area in Old Town. Historic Centre (Old Town) of Tallinn.

Thursday

UNESCO - Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram - Butter Ball, India

I already have this UNESCO site (Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram) from another swap with Anaita but I couldn't resist this card showing the 'Butter Ball' in her albums so swapped for this one too.  The notes on the back say, " Firmly poised this butter ball recalls the mythological pranks of Krishna.

UNESCO - Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai, India

One for my UNESCO collection.  What a beautiful building!  It is the main train station in Mumbai, India.  It was previously named the Victoria Terminus but is now the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus.
Received from Anaita who says that in the eyes of the people living in the city it is a crowded and bustling railway terminus and hardly a UNESCO site and it's sad that they don't pause to admire the beauty.  "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus)".

UNESCO - Historic Center of Krakow, Ploand

A great UNESCO card for the collection.  This time it's Poland and the 'Historic Center of Krakow'.  The card shows the Royal Castle on the Wawel from the East.

UNESCO - Historic Center of Riga, Latvia

Great on for the UNESCO collection. Historic Center of Riga in Latvia from Guido.  Super round shaped football stamp too!

Forbidden City, UNESCO, Qing and Ming Dynasties, Beijing, China

I am absolutely fascinated by The Forbidden City!  It is in the top 5 places in the world I'd like to visit one day.  In the meantime I have to be satisfied with seeing it on postcards.  I never tire of receiving the postcard version though as there are so many different areas and views from the site. This is a UNESCO site of  'Imperial Palaces of Qing and Ming Dynasties in Beijing and Shenyang.  Rila took this photo herself and made it into a postcard.
